CLASS SUMMARY

This class is designed for a wide audience, ranging from aspiring supervisors to administration roles.  In this course, participants will explore a wide range legal aspects and liabilities, responsibilities, and best practices relating to the following topics:

• Vehicle pursuits and analysis
• Use of force and review
• Citizen complaints
• Officer involved vehicle crashes and analysis
• Civil Rights Lawsuits (“Section 1983”)
• Basic Internal Affairs procedures
• Internal Communication strategies, as based on the book “Traction”
• Mission, vision, and strategy
• Federal employment laws (EEO/Title VII, ADA, Hostile work environments, equal protection, FLSA)
